Violin,  Viola & Cello Lessons

(Ages 5 and up)

What are the main benefits to study violin at the Napa School of Music?

Established in 2005, Napa School of Music has been an integral part of the Napa Valley music community, promoting music education, performance, and collaboration amongst students of all ages and abilities. In addition to private lessons, Napa School of Music offers a wide range of group classes, summer camps and rock band programs. Lessons at Napa School of Music can encompass the entire music making experience, guiding students from the early stages of learning an instrument, to performing, recording, and beyond!

Our violin, viola and cello instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to pair you with the right teacher and craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student's favorite type of music. All ages and ability levels are welcome.

Whether you're a five-year-old taking their first lesson, or a fifty-year-old returning to the violin, viola or cello after many years, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

What styles do you teach?

The violin, viola and cello are normally associated with classical and folk music, but our teachers can teach every genre from pop to jazz and even some fiddle!

What will I learn from violin, viola or cello lessons at The Napa School of Music?

Napa School Of Music instructors work with each student (and parent) to craft a lesson plan based on each student's needs and musical goals. Many students opt for the Suzuki Teaching Method or Napa School of Music’s "MUSIC MASTERY SYSTEM” which follows a specific lesson structure, starting with a short technical warm up exercise followed by a theory concept (ear training, note reading, etc.). The rest of the lesson time is focused on developing a student’s song repertoire, which can range from Mozart to Metallica depending on that students interests. Instructors draw from a wide variety of teaching resources ranging from traditional Hal Leonard and Alfred method books to modern online practice tools and music apps. Napa School of Music instructors take great care in providing a structured means of musical advancement, exploration, and most importantly fun!

Our students spend time each week working on technical skills to improve their sound quality and intonation, but also have their favorite songs incorporated into the lessons so they finish with their favorite piece. Our violin teachers, through their care and expertise, will certainly nurture any student’s love of the violin. ‍

Are there recitals?‍

Absolutely! Every January and June, our students have the opportunity to perform at the Napa School of Music Recitals Event. You can invite all of your family and friends

Do I need to purchase a violin to learn the instrument?

The Napa School of Music offers violins for student lessons (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). But to practice at home, you will need a violin. We offer a variety of instruments appropriate for beginners for rent.

How qualified are your violin instructors?

A musically diverse roaster of highly qualified instructors is one the many benefits of taking lessons at  the Napa School of Music. All of our instructors have extensive teaching experience as well as degreed credentials. Our teaching professionals are qualified to teach any level of ability from complete beginners to advanced professionals.

In addition to teaching, many of our instructors are also accomplished performers, songwriters and composers.

To ensure that the Napa School of Music is a safe learning environment for our students, we require our employees, including both teachers and desk staff, to have all the necessary background checks through the Department of Justice.
