BUILDING SELF ESTEEM THROUGH MUSIC

Summer Learning Camp Near St. Helena for Kids Who Love Music
Looking for a summer learning camp near St. Helena that actually keeps kids engaged? Napa School of Music runs hands-on summer camp programs for St. Helena families who want their kids doing something real over the break, not just killing time.

Every week is built around summer camp activities near St. Helena that teach an actual skill. Kids don't sit through lectures. They pick up an instrument, join a band, write a song, or record a music video with a small group of campers their own age. By Friday, most kids can point to something they made and say, "I did that."

Camps run in small, age-grouped sessions so a 7-year-old and a 15-year-old never get stuck in the same room doing the same thing. Whether your child has never touched an instrument or has been playing for years, there's a spot for them.
What Makes Our Summer Camp Programs Different
Summer Programming Built Around Real Skills, Not Busywork
A lot of summer programming for kids fills the day with games and calls it a camp. Ours doesn't. Every camp at Napa School of Music is taught by working musicians who treat music the way a good sports coach treats practice: show up, put in the reps, get better by Friday. Campers leave with something to show for the week, whether that's a recorded song, a music video, or a short set they can actually perform.
That structure matters for summer learning. Music naturally teaches focus, patience, and problem-solving, skills that don't take a break just because school did. A camper working out a guitar riff or nailing a harmony is doing real cognitive work, even if it feels like play. Parents consistently tell us their kids come home from camp tired in the best way, the way you're tired after actually accomplishing something.
Confidence is the other piece. A lot of kids come into camp shy about performing or unsure if they're "musical enough." That changes fast. Our instructors design each camp experience to build confidence step by step: first playing alone, then with a partner, then in front of the group. By the end of the week, most campers who swore they'd never sing in front of anyone are up on stage at the camp talent show, and they're proud of it.

A Typical Camp Experience at Napa School of Music
Every camp experience follows a similar arc, whether your child is in Rock Camp or Exploration Camp. Early in the week, instructors focus on fundamentals and getting comfortable with the instrument or group. Mid-week, campers start building toward something: a song, a set, a video. By the last day, everything comes together at our camp talent show, where campers perform for family and friends.
That final performance is a big part of why families come back year after year. It gives kids a real deadline and a real audience, which pushes them to actually finish what they start. For a lot of campers, it's their first time performing in front of anyone outside their family, and watching a nervous first-day kid turn into a confident performer by Friday is exactly the kind of camp experience we aim for.
