What does this mean for your student?

At the Napa School of Music, students have the opportunity to record themselves and produce CD’s and mp3’s of their original compositions, for example, or just have an audio version of their lesson, including songs and exercises they are currently working on.  It is critical to hear the music you are learning and be reminded about technique by your teacher. This is how the audio recordings reinforce our lessons.

Students also have the opportunity to use a computer based notation program, G7, (see example at left) developed by Sibelius, a renowned music software company whose software is used in Hollywood, for example, to score many well-known TV shows and movies and by many famous composers.

Studio 1 is also equipped with the latest professional level recording software from Apple called Logic, which is fast becoming an industry standard in the recording field.

Our vocal students have hands-on instruction using microphones learning how to use them in live and recording situations.  Vocalists have access to Shure, Audio Technica, Samson and Beyer microphones.

Our instrumental students also have the opportunity to learn how to record their performances including the proper microphone placement and techniques.

Guitarists have access to Marshall, Fender, Line 6, Peavey and Crate amplifiers.

Keyboard students have access to Roland, Yamaha and Casio instruments.

Drum students have the option to play acoustic Ludwig or electronic Roland drum kits.

We believe that technology is an integral and important part of learning a musical instrument in the 21st century.

These are not your Daddy’s music lessons!

Many parents remember the days of music lessons with dread,  piano teachers that rapped knuckles with rulers, teachers that forced students to learn tedious and uninteresting music, cranky old ladies in musky old front rooms, you remember, unfortunately!

Our lessons are based around 3 elements -

  1. 1.Make it fun

  2. 2.Make it relevant

  3. 3.Make it educational

The 21st century is alive and well at

the Napa School of Music.

8 of our teaching studios are equipped with the latest Apple iMac computers which allow the teachers and students access to the latest music related technology such as Apple’s GarageBand recording program (pictured below), iTunes and Sibelius G7 notation software.
